Chad Hoke Smith was promoted to the rank of Major while serving in the U.S. Army at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Maj. Smith is a 1988 graduate of Cedartown High School. He received his BA degree as well as his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Army from the Citadel.

Smith completed his college education as a distinguished military of science graduate in 1992.

During his military career, he has received two Meritorious Service medals, three Army Commendation medals, the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Overseas Service Medal.

During his 11 years in the military, he has been assigned to military installations which include: Ft. Rucker, Ala., Ft. Bliss, Texas, Ft. Carson, Colo., Yongsan, Korea, and Ft. Hood, Texas. He is currently in transition from Ft. Hood to an assignment in Tuscon, Ariz.

Maj. Smith is married to Candace Waits Smith, formerly of Rockmart. His parents are Hoke and Linda Smith of Cedartown.
